For accuracy better than 5%, the following assumptions must hold:
1. Beam is homogeneous
2. Curvature in plane of bending is > 10 times beam thickness, i. e., the beam is straight
3. Beam cross-section is uniform
4. Beam has at least one longitudinal plane of symmetry
5. All loads and reactions are perpendicular to the beam axis
6. Length and width > 5* thickness
7. The maximum stress does not exceed the yield strength
8. The deflection < thickness
